For students
Challenge Studio is a special five-year program hosted at Eric Hamber Secondary. In Grade 8, students take four Challenge Studio blocks—English, Social Studies, Science and Critical Thinking/Fine Arts—alongside Mathematics, French, Physical Education and applied skills. The published model emphasizes academic acceleration, creative and critical thinking, projects, inquiry and student ownership. English and Science move faster in the junior years, so a student should expect a structured and demanding program rather than simply extra homework added to regular classes.
Program materials describe a close cohort, leadership and community events, plus examples of field trips, speakers and overnight experiences. These examples show the style of enrichment but are not a guaranteed calendar. Challenge Studio students are on the Eric Hamber campus, although access to particular host-school clubs, teams, rooms or supports is not promised by the published program information. A student who enjoys asking questions, working independently and collaboratively, and combining humanities, science and creative projects may find the approach interesting. Admission is separate from regular Eric Hamber catchment entry and requires the district process plus a program application.

| Identity | A Vancouver School Board (VSB) mini-school program, officially hosted at Eric Hamber Secondary. The current VSB page directs families to the program's own site for substantive information. S01 S02 |
| Grades served | Grades 8–12. The official program describes a five-year Grade 8–12 program. S02 S07 |
| Host school and location | Eric Hamber Secondary, 960 W 33rd Avenue, Vancouver, BC V5Z 0L2. S01 S02 |
| Entry route | VSB lists it as a Grade 8 mini-school choice program. District registration and a separate Challenge Studio application package are both required for the published September 2027 entry cycle. S03 S05 |
| Published 2027–2028 status | The program has a current September 2027 Grade 8 application page and form. The target-year application process is therefore published; target-year enrolment, cohort size, staff allocation, facilities allocation, and a successor host-school course guide are Not currently available. S03 S04 |
Challenge Studio presents itself as a program for highly able students seeking both acceleration and enrichment. Its published approach emphasizes creative and critical thinking, project-based learning, student ownership, exploration of individual interests, and a cohort community. These are the program's descriptions of its educational approach, not comparative rankings or a guarantee of an individual student's experience. S02 S12
VSB's September 2027 choice-program brochure characterizes Challenge Studio as a five-year, Humanities-focused program. The program's own current pages identify focused study in English, Social Studies, Science, and Critical Thinking/Fine Arts; the Grade 8 structure contains those four program blocks. S07 S12 S04
The current host-school booklet and program pages describe accelerated junior English and Science: the Grade 8–10 requirements are completed over Grades 8 and 9. The published five-year sequence also includes Challenge Studio Social Studies through Grade 10, Inquiry & Innovation in Grade 9, Challenge Studio Law 12, Challenge Studio World Literature 12, Career-Life Connections 12, and recommended AP English Literature and Philosophy in Grade 12. This is a 2026–2027/undated-current description, not a promise that every listed course or sequence will remain unchanged in 2027–2028. Detailed course treatment is in academics.md and courses-and-electives.md. S08 S12
Challenge Studio is based at Eric Hamber Secondary in Vancouver. It is a choice/mini-school program rather than the regular Eric Hamber catchment program. The published September 2027 VSB process requires the district's mini-school registry as well as the program's separate application package. VSB's FAQ frames mini-school programs as being for Vancouver residents who can work at an above-average or Proficient level, while directing families to individual program sites for their additional requirements. S01 S03 S05 S06
Catchment boundary for Challenge Studio: NOT APPLICABLE as a program catchment. The cited VSB mini-school eligibility is district-wide/Vancouver-resident framing, not an assertion that any particular residence is eligible or that admission is guaranteed. Families should use the live VSB process and program-specific materials for the entry year. S05 S06
Ministry record in this dossier reports Eric Hamber Secondary as a whole and does not isolate Challenge Studio students; host-school figures must not be assigned to the program cohort. S10
The reviewed official program pages and 2027 application materials do not publish a planned Grade 8 intake, total program size, or a demographic profile.
Challenge Studio does not publish a separately allocated campus or dedicated facilities inventory. Its current address, application drop-off instructions, and host-school course booklet place the program at Eric Hamber Secondary. S01 S04 S08
The host school opened its replacement campus to students in September 2024. VSB identifies multiple gymnasiums, an atrium, music space with sound-proof practice pods, an auditorium, a drama room, specialty classrooms, and outdoor spaces; the school is a 1,700-student, LEED Gold, seismically safer facility. These are host-school facilities, not facilities reserved for Challenge Studio. VSB: A first look at the new Henry Hudson Elementary and Eric Hamber Secondary (published 2024-09-20; checked 2026-09-21) VSB: Media release: More Vancouver students in new, seismically safer school (published 2024-09-16; checked 2026-09-21)
Based on the published information, because Challenge Studio operates at Eric Hamber and its Grade 8 students also take non-program courses (such as mathematics, French, PE, and ADST), they likely use some regular-school learning spaces and services. The reviewed sources do not publish a program-by-program timetable, room assignment, counselling arrangement, or facilities-access allocation; no stronger shared-resource claim is made. S04 S08
The following are published defining features, without ranking Challenge Studio against other programs:
Official historical application forms establish that the program was running for September 2023 and September 2024 Grade 8 entry; the locally preserved 2024–2025 form has the same core Grade 8 four-block structure and accompanying host-school courses as the September 2027 form. This supports continuity of the program and its Grade 8 model across those two published cycles. It does not establish unchanged staffing, cohort size, selection practices, or course delivery in every intervening year. H01 S11 S04
The identified 2025–2026 program-form URL is now inaccessible, and no separately verified 2026–2027 program form was found. Those gaps are archival limitations, not evidence that the program stopped operating. R01 changes.md
Based on the published information, the live target-cycle application and VSB listing provide evidence that Challenge Studio is expected to admit a Grade 8 cohort for 2027–2028. They do not guarantee that every program element described in older or undated sources will be identical once the school year begins.
The principal evidence is the official VSB/program registry in sources.md, including local archives and dates checked. The two facility sources linked above are official VSB publications and are used only for host-campus facts. This overview deliberately does not treat Eric Hamber-wide Ministry data as Challenge Studio data, and does not project 2026–2027 course information into 2027–2028 without an explicit label.

Challenge Studio is listed by VSB as a Grade 8 mini-school choice program and as a five-year program. The current published process is for students seeking Grade 8 entry in September 2027. S05 S07
| Item | Published fact / limit |
|---|---|
| Geographic eligibility | VSB says mini-school programs are for Vancouver residents. Challenge Studio has no separate program catchment; this is a district choice program, not regular Eric Hamber catchment admission. S06 |
| Academic/motivation framing | VSB describes mini schools as opportunities for Vancouver residents able to work at an above-average or Proficient level, who are highly motivated and would benefit from highly motivated peers. This is VSB’s district-wide framing, not a published Challenge Studio cutoff, score, or guarantee of admission. S06 |
| Program-specific eligibility | The program collects current/past-program information and application materials, and its page says those materials help determine applicant suitability. A complete published eligibility rubric, minimum report-card grade, assessment threshold, quota, or intake number is Not currently available. S03 S04 |
| Catchment priority / cross-boundary | NOT APPLICABLE as a Challenge Studio program rule. The historical brochures’ catchment-priority/cross-boundary language is headed “school-based programs”; it must not be transferred to this district mini-school program. A separate regular-school registration or cross-boundary process, if applicable to a student, is outside the published Challenge Studio application materials. |
| Entry at other grades | The reviewed September 2027 materials are specifically for Grade 8. Grade 9–12 entry, mid-year entry, transfers, waitlists, and re-entry rules are Not currently available. |
VSB and Challenge Studio publish a two-step process. Submitting one is not published as a substitute for the other. S03 S05 S06

| VSB — District Mini School General Registry | Opens Monday, November 16, 2026 at 9:00 a.m.; closes Thursday, December 17, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. S05 S06 | Every applicant completes the registry. Each student may register once; Grade 7 students may apply to as many mini schools as they wish but identify their top three choices through the registry. S06 |
| Challenge Studio — program application package | Due Thursday, December 17, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. S03 S04 | A separate package for Challenge Studio. The program page says documents are dropped at Eric Hamber’s main office; the video is submitted as a link through the program’s stated form. |
The same calendar date has two different closing times: 3:00 p.m. for the Challenge Studio package and 11:59 p.m. for VSB’s district registry. They are distinct publisher-owned steps and are not interchangeable. S03 S05
The 2027 form identifies the following package components as materials used to help determine applicant suitability. S03 S04
| Required component | Published detail |
|---|---|
| Application form | The Challenge Studio Grade 8 application form, including student/parent information, current-program and past-program declarations, and the program-rankings field. |
| Student written responses | Answers to five student questions on the form: program fit/difference from regular school; three main out-of-class activities; three additional facts; one thing overcome or wished to overcome; and a long-term topic/issue the student would investigate with unlimited funding/resources. |
| Grade 6 and Grade 7 reports | Copies of: Grade 6 Term 2 (or mid-year/Written Learning Update #2); Grade 6 final (or Summary of Learning); and Grade 7 mid-year (Written Learning Update #1). The form says private-school applicants email the Grade 7 report card when they receive it. |
| Passion video link | A 60–90 second video about the student’s passion(s); the student must appear and speak. The video is hosted on a platform selected by the applicant and submitted as a link through the program’s stated link form. The program page states that the video itself is not uploaded there, that the link should be downloadable/access-permitted, and that videos are viewed only by the admissions panel. |
| Program rankings | The form asks applicants to list all special programs, including Challenge Studio, in preference order (first, second, third). It states that, because interview space is limited, interviews are rarely given to applicants who rank Challenge Studio third. This is a published interview-space statement, not a complete selection formula. |
They are not listed in the reviewed 2027 program package.

| Date and place | Wednesday, December 9, 2026, after school at Eric Hamber. S03 S04 |
| Time | Applicants are assigned either 3:45–4:45 p.m. or 5:00–6:00 p.m. |
| Format/content | One-hour assessment with three sections focused on English, Social Studies, and Science concepts. The program says advanced preparation is not required. |
| Registration | Separate registration through the program’s stated assessment-registration link; registration closes Wednesday, December 2, 2026. The page says parents of registrants are contacted Friday, December 4, 2026 with further details. |
| Availability | The program says this is the only assessment date. Alternative dates, accommodations, assessment questions, scoring, cut scores, and the weight of the assessment are Not currently available. |
The VSB brochure’s statement that there is no District Wide Assessment does not conflict with this program assessment: it describes the district-wide requirement, while Challenge Studio independently publishes its own program-specific assessment. S07 S03
Only shortlisted applicants are invited to in-person group interviews on Tuesday, February 2, 2027, during the school day. The program says parents of shortlisted applicants will receive email on Thursday, January 28, 2027; the applicant should expect either the morning or afternoon at the program. S03 S04
The published process establishes these selection stages: separate VSB registration and program package; program assessment for all applicants; shortlisting; group interviews for shortlisted applicants; then offers. The program says the package materials help determine suitability, but it does not publish a weighted rubric, cut score, quota, tie-breaker, admissions-panel membership, or number of seats. S03 S04 S06
| Offer stage | Published date and method |
|---|---|
| First-round offers | Wednesday, February 17, 2027; offered students are contacted through parent email. |
| First-round acceptance deadline | Friday, February 19, 2027 at 12:00 noon; acceptances are emailed to the program’s published address. |
| Second-round offers | Wednesday, February 24, 2027; offered students are contacted through parent email. |
| Second-round acceptance deadline | Thursday, February 25, 2027 at 12:00 noon; acceptances are emailed to the program’s published address. |
VSB’s general FAQ says first offers are made at the end of February and second offers in March, that applicants receive a reply deadline, and that a student may accept one offer only. Challenge Studio’s dated first/second-round timeline is more specific for this program and cycle. The timing statements are an apparent conflict; this dossier treats the program-specific September 2027 dates as controlling for Challenge Studio while retaining the general VSB wording as district context. S06 S03
| Entry cycle | Officially documented record | Change / limitation |
|---|---|---|
| September 2024 / 2024–2025 | The program’s archived form set a Thursday, December 21, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. package deadline, requested the form/five responses, Grade 6 mid-year and final reports, a 60–90 second passion video, an assessment for all applicants, and early-February interviews. It asked for the Grade 7 mid-year report only if the applicant was interviewed. The VSB brochure used a Nov. 14–Dec. 21 district registry, also closing at 3:00 p.m. S11 H04 | Core form, five-question, report-card, video, assessment, and interview components are documented historically. The 2024 form did not print a program-specific assessment or interview date. |
| September 2025 / 2025–2026 | VSB’s historical brochure documents a Nov. 12–Dec. 19, 2024 district registry and a Dec. 19, 2024 3:00 p.m. school-application deadline. H04 | The identified Challenge Studio program form is REMOVED/INACCESSIBLE. Program-specific documents, assessment/interview details, selection process, and offer dates are Not currently available; no reconstruction has been made from search snippets. R01 |
| September 2026 / 2026–2027 | VSB’s historical brochure originally documented a registry from Nov. 10, 2025 at 9:00 a.m. to Dec. 15, 2025 at 3:00 p.m., and a Dec. 15 school-application deadline at 3:00 p.m. A later official notice extended both deadlines to Dec. 18, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. H04 S18 | The later extension controls the historical deadline record. No separately verified Challenge Studio application form was found; program-specific requirements, assessment/interview dates, selection, and offers are Not currently available. This is an evidence gap, not evidence that no program process existed. |
| September 2027 / 2027–2028 | Current sources publish the two-step process, distinct 3:00 p.m./11:59 p.m. closings, three report cards, a passion-video link, a dated assessment, shortlisted group interviews, and two dated offer rounds. S03 S04 S05 | Compared with the 2024 form, the Grade 7 mid-year report is now listed as part of the package for VSB students before winter break (with a private-school follow-up exception), rather than being requested only if interviewed. The current form also prints the ranking field and dated assessment/interview/offer milestones. Based on the published information, these are material process changes between the two published program forms; missing 2025–2026 and 2026–2027 forms prevent a complete year-by-year change history. |
All factual claims above use program or VSB sources registered in sources.md. The current program page/form and VSB’s current mini-school pages were checked 2026-09-21; the current program page and form are locally archived under documents/2027-28/, while annual VSB brochures are referenced from the shared canonical archive identified in the registry. The published Grade 8 form says that every accepted student takes eight courses. The current host booklet prints this five-year Challenge Studio sequence. The official program site separately says that Grades 8 and 9 complete three years of English and Science. S08 S12
| Grade | Published Challenge Studio sequence | Interpretation boundary |
|---|---|---|
| 8 | English 8; Social Studies 8; Science 8; Critical Thinking/Fine Arts 8 | The four blocks are also confirmed for 2027–2028 by S04. S04 |
| 9 | English 10; Social Studies 9; Science 10; Inquiry & Innovation 9 | 2026–2027/undated-current only. English and Science acceleration means Grades 8–10 requirements are completed over Grades 8–9. S08 S12 |

The chart records the named program sequence, not a complete eight-course plan for Grades 9–12. The official sources reviewed do not publish which other host-school courses a particular Challenge Studio student must take in each senior year.
Challenge Studio has no program Math component in the published 2026–2027/undated description. It says a spring math assessment may lead to Math 9 instead of Math 8; students who have already completed Math 8 through VLN are described as moving to Math 9 or higher. S04 S08 S12
The program page says students entering from French Immersion are generally placed in French 10 or 11, depending on scheduling and availability; the current Grade 8 form more broadly lists French 8 “or higher.” This supports the possibility of advanced French placement but does not establish a universal outcome or a 2027–2028 placement rule. S04 S12
Based on the published information, because the Grade 8 target-cycle form combines four program blocks with Mathematics, French, PE, and ADST, Challenge Studio students take at least some academics through the host school's wider course structure. This does not establish which sections, teachers, rooms, or senior electives are shared.
Do not infer this from the two-year accelerated English/Science sequence.
| Option | Published evidence | Limit |

| Accelerated English and Science | Three junior years are completed over Grades 8–9. | A published acceleration model, not an AP/IB credential. S08 |
| Enriched English sequence | English 11 Challenge Studio → World Literature 12 Challenge Studio; AP English Literature & Composition 12 is the recommended Grade 12 continuation. | The host booklet says AP Literature students write the AP exam in May. AP offering, enrollment and exam participation for 2027–2028 are Not currently available. S08 |
| Senior humanities | Law 12 Challenge Studio and Philosophy 12 are printed in the sequence; Philosophy 12 is marked recommended in Grade 12. | No full target-year senior course chart is published. S08 |
| Advanced Math/French placement | Mathematics 8 or higher and French 8 or higher appear on the target-cycle form. The program's undated/current page describes a possible Math 9 placement and French Immersion placements generally in French 10 or 11. | Placement and availability are individualized; no target-cycle testing/placement procedure is published. S04 S12 |
| IB | Not currently available. No reviewed official Challenge Studio or host-booklet source identifies Challenge Studio as an IB program or publishes an IB pathway. | Absence in reviewed sources is not proof that no student can pursue an external/other arrangement. |
No host-wide service may be assumed to be dedicated to this mini-school cohort.
Families needing a particular accommodation should obtain a current written response from the program/host school rather than relying on this dossier.
The B.C. Dogwood Diploma requires 80 credits, including specified Grade 10–12 subject credits, Career-Life Education, Career-Life Connections, an Indigenous-focused course, and three graduation assessments. These are provincial requirements, not Challenge Studio requirements. B.C. Ministry: Certificates of Graduation (OFFICIAL; published 2024-03-20; checked 2026-09-21) S09
The host booklet cautions that graduation requirements are distinct from post-secondary admission and that individual timetables and course availability can constrain plans. That is a material planning caveat for a student considering senior Math, Science, language, or arts prerequisites. S08

| 2024–2025 application form | Grade 8 had the same four Challenge Studio blocks plus Mathematics (or higher), French (or higher), PE, and ADST, and stated eight total courses. | Strong historical continuity with the September 2027 form; it does not prove all intervening or future delivery details. S11 S04 |

| 2026–2027 host booklet + undated program pages | Publish the accelerated English/Science pathway, a five-year chart, possible advanced Math/French placement, and a stated expectation that students maintain a “Proficient”/“B” standing to remain in the program. | The statement is present in the near-current booklet, but it is not repeated as a target-cycle retention condition in the 2027 application form. Therefore, whether it remains a formal 2027–2028 retention rule is Not currently available, not a published target-year requirement. S08 S04 |
| 2027–2028 target-cycle form | Confirms the Grade 8 eight-course model and Math/French “or higher,” but does not publish the five-year sequence, detailed placement process, support model, or schedule. | Treat S04 as authoritative for target-year Grade 8 structure and do not silently carry forward older/undated details. S04 |
Primary evidence is the official program/VSB registry and archived documents in sources.md: S04 (target-year Grade 8 form), S08 (2026–2027 host course booklet), S09 (B.C. framework), S11 (2024–2025 historical form), S12 (undated/current official course pages), and R01 (removed 2025–2026 form). No secondary or anecdotal sources were used. The claims here deliberately distinguish target-year facts from current/near-current descriptions and host-school-wide information.

The four non-program Grade 8 courses—Math, French, PE, and ADST—are part of the target-year eight-course pattern. They are courses alongside the four program blocks, but the form does not say whether they are taught in mixed regular-school sections, program-only sections, or another arrangement. Calling them “shared classes” is therefore Based on the published information, , not a published delivery fact. S04
Based on the published information, the unfilled places in the Grade 9–12 eight-course program are likely drawn from the host-school timetable, because the Grade 8 form explicitly combines program and non-program courses. This does not establish access to any particular host course, section, or pathway. A future course-selection package is needed before treating an elective as available.

The official 2026–2027 host booklet says individual timetables operate within facility, staffing, graduation-requirement, and student-choice constraints; requests may conflict, demand can cause a course not to run, and staffing or other circumstances can change offerings/descriptions. | English 8–10 pathway | The Challenge Studio section lists a four-code bundle, including both Composition 10 and Literary Studies 10 components. | The five-year chart compresses this into “English 8CHST” then “English 10CHST.” | Not necessarily a conflict: the detailed bundle is consistent with accelerated completion across Grades 8–9, but the chart does not show each component's exact grade/block. That component-by-component timing is Not currently available. |
| Law 12 / CLC 12 names | Chart labels “Law 12CHST” and “CLC 12CHST.” | The Challenge Studio descriptions use “Law 12” and do not give a CLC code/standalone description. | Treat CHST in the chart as program labeling, not proof of a distinct provincial code. CLC's code is Not currently available. |

Challenge Studio’s official Community Events page says its Student Leadership Club and CHST Parent Group host social events and enrichment activities throughout the year. The page names pumpkin carving, game nights, a winter social, Secret Santa, speaker sessions, an Amazing Race, a beach party, lunch-time sports, fundraisers, and volunteer opportunities. This supports the existence of a program-linked leadership/community structure and a recurring menu of activities; it does not establish that any named activity occurs every year, who may join leadership, whether activities are student-led alone, or whether participation is compulsory.

| Leadership | A Student Leadership Club is named as helping host social events and enrichment activities with the CHST Parent Group. | Membership, selection, meeting time, advisor, responsibilities, and 2027–2028 operation: Not currently available. |
| Service and fundraising | The official community-events list includes fundraisers and volunteer opportunities. | Cause, partner, service hours, participation terms, and target-year schedule: Not currently available. |
| Cohort community | The program says new students can find a close-knit community in a larger high school. | This is the program’s own description, not a guaranteed individual social experience. Based on the published information, cohort-based program courses and leadership events could make it easier to meet fellow program students; this is not evidence of a particular cohort size or outcome. S04 |
| School-wide/community events | The program lists seasonal/social activities, speaker sessions, lunch-time sports, an Amazing Race, and a beach party. | These are examples on an undated page, not a published annual calendar or attendance requirement. Not currently available for 2027–2028 dates and formats. |
The archived 2026–2027 Challenge Studio course record also describes Grade 10 Social Studies as offering community connections and leadership/mentoring opportunities, and Grade 12 Career-Life Connections as involving a mentor-supported reflection and capstone project. These are course-linked, near-current/undated descriptions—not evidence of a separate club, a guaranteed external placement, or a 2027–2028 activity plan. S08 S12
Challenge Studio calls field trips a valued part of the program and presents them as real-world, inquiry-oriented learning. Its page labels the following as past trips or visits: Vancouver Art Gallery, Bill Reid Gallery, several theatres/arts organizations, Cinematheque, Writers Festival, Poetry in Voice, Ballet BC, Vancouver Opera, Museum of Anthropology, Vancouver Holocaust Centre, Academy of Duello, EA Sports, law courts, Beaty Biodiversity Museum, Planetarium, VanDusen Garden, BCIT Day, UBC Day, a Speaker Day at Hamber, and Victoria. This is evidence of historical breadth across arts, humanities, science, careers, and post-secondary exploration; it is not a promise that a particular site, event, speaker, or destination will recur.
The official host-school absence page confirms that field-trip attendance lists and forms are handled through the school, but it does not publish Challenge Studio-specific procedures. VSB, Absence Reporting (OFFICIAL; published 2026-01-20; checked 2026-09-21)
The official program page lists Camp Potlatch (Sunshine Coast), Oregon Shakespeare Festival (Ashland), Camp Fircom (Gambier Island), and SIMSOC at Camp Capilano as overnight-trip examples. The page describes overnight trips as immersive, hands-on learning that can include nature or another culture and emphasizes independence, teamwork, resilience, and problem-solving. The named destinations are undated examples; they do not identify an annual grade-level sequence or make a future trip a requirement.
Based on the published information, program-sponsored trips may be a distinctive way for participating students to spend extended time with their cohort. The evidence does not establish that every student participates, that a trip is affordable or accessible to every family, or that these destinations will return.
The current/near-current program description identifies inquiry/project-based Science and calls the Vancouver District Science Fair an example of an enriched opportunity; it also describes Grade 9 Inquiry & Innovation as student-proposed, planned, executed, and presented work. This establishes an academic enrichment context, not a school club or guaranteed science-fair entry. S08 S12
The Challenge Studio student/alumni page contains individual alumni accounts of contributing to the host-school yearbook and The Griffins’ Nest newspaper, alongside individual accounts of clubs, athletics, competitions, and student council. These are ANECDOTAL testimonials published on the official program site—not a published Challenge Studio entitlement, current roster, or target-year program offering. Eric Hamber’s official 2025–2026 club list records a broad host-school menu, including 3D Printing, Art, Business, CanSat, Chess, Cyber Security, Debate, Dragon Boat, Environment, GSA, HOSA, Math, Model United Nations, Peer Mentorship, Physics Olympics, Poetry in Voice, Science Exploration, Service, Social Justice, STEM Sorority, TEDxYouth, The Griffins’ Nest, Writer’s Club, dance, fitness, dodgeball, and scorekeepers/timers. It records sponsors and locations, including the Learning Commons, gym, weight room, fitness studio, dance studio, and auditorium. The list shows that clubs may be created in response to student interest, while the newer host-school resource page says students can join clubs through the school year and describes a historical lunch-time Clubs Day Fair at the beginning of each semester. This does not show that Challenge Studio students can take part in every listed activity. The 2025–2026 list must not be presented as a live 2026–2027 or future roster.
For athletics, an official Eric Hamber school plan reports 615 student athletes participating across three sport seasons in the year it describes, supported by student coaches, scorekeepers/officials, alumni/parent coaches, and staff coaches/team sponsors. It also notes a lunch-time intramural program. This establishes that host-school athletics and student supporting roles existed in that reporting period, not the sports offered now, a Challenge Studio-specific team pathway, or individual eligibility. 4–6](https://media.vsb.bc.ca/media/Default/medialib/03939022.1f7dc245100.pdf)
The official host-school resource page says students may connect with their counsellor for emerging concerns and ongoing course-planning/coursework guidance. The current host staff page lists grade-level counsellors, including a Grade 8 counsellor, and Student Support Assistants for mainstream and Life Skills settings. Challenge Studio does not publish dedicated rooms or priority access. VSB’s replacement-campus reporting identifies host-campus multiple gymnasiums, an atrium, music space with sound-proof practice pods, an auditorium, drama room, specialty classrooms, and outdoor spaces. This file separates three things that are easy to conflate:
Most important limit: no 2027–2028 Eric Hamber bell schedule, Challenge Studio block rotation, semester/linear plan, room list, cohort timetable, club-meeting calendar, rehearsal calendar, performance calendar, or trip calendar was published in the reviewed record. The 2027 form confirms what an accepted Grade 8 student takes; it does not say when each course meets. S04 The dated bell schedule below is therefore historical host-school evidence only.
Every accepted Grade 8 student is published as taking eight courses: English 8 Challenge Studio, Social Studies 8 Challenge Studio, Science 8 Challenge Studio, Critical Thinking/Fine Arts 8 Challenge Studio, Mathematics 8 or higher, French 8 or higher, PE 8, and ADST 8. This is the only reviewed 2027–2028 course-and-week structure. It does not say whether the four Challenge Studio blocks occur every day, whether they occupy adjacent blocks, or whether Math/French/PE/ADST are program-only or mixed-host-school sections. S04

| Eight Grade 8 courses | A full Grade 8 program includes four named Challenge Studio blocks plus Math, French, PE, and ADST. | 2027–2028 semester versus linear delivery, daily order, frequency, teachers, rooms, cohort size, and individual Math/French level. |
| Challenge Studio’s Grade 8 academic model | The near-current program description identifies accelerated English and Science, inquiry/project work, and Critical Thinking/Fine Arts; the latter may include art, drama, photography, film, or stop animation. | Which projects, media, assessments, or units occur in a given week or cohort in 2027–2028. S08 S12 |
| Program courses by grade | The 2026–2027/undated five-year materials name four Challenge Studio courses in Grade 9, two in Grade 10, two in Grade 11, and CLC 12 plus recommended AP English/Philosophy in Grade 12. | A complete Grade 9–12 eight-course plan, timetable, and 2027–2028 continuation. Eric Hamber’s official 2024–2025 bell-schedule PDF shows a four-block weekday timetable with lunch 11:30 a.m.–12:15 p.m. and different Monday/Wednesday versus Tuesday/Thursday/Friday lengths. Monday and Wednesday had FIT 8:40–9:20 a.m. and 1:20–2:00 p.m., with four 60-minute blocks between/around them; Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday used four 80-minute blocks from 8:40 a.m. to 3:05 p.m. The same schedule rotated the order of Blocks 1–4 partway through each semester.
| Day pattern in the 2024–2025 host schedule | Published timing | Status for Challenge Studio 2027–2028 |
|---|---|---|
| Monday / Wednesday | FIT 8:40–9:20; Block 1 9:25–10:25; Block 2 10:30–11:30; lunch 11:30–12:15; Block 3 12:15–1:15; FIT 1:20–2:00; Block 4 2:05–3:05. | Historical host-school fact only. Not currently available for 2027–2028. |
| Tuesday / Thursday / Friday | Block 1 8:40–10:00; Block 2 10:10–11:30; lunch 11:30–12:15; Block 3 12:15–1:35; Block 4 1:45–3:05. | Historical host-school fact only. Not currently available for 2027–2028. |
| Block order | Semester 1 initially used 1–2–3–4 and later used 2–1–4–3; Semester 2 used the same two orderings in the dates printed on that PDF. | It does not establish that a Challenge Studio student took any particular subject in any numbered block, or that the rotation continues. |
The host school’s current new-student resource says students are expected to attend all scheduled classes, on time, every school day, and that attendance is recorded every period. It also says MyEd BC shows a student’s timetable. This confirms the practical source of an individual schedule, not the contents of a future Challenge Studio timetable. VSB, New Hamber Student Resources (OFFICIAL; published 2026-03-06; checked 2026-09-21)
The Grade 8 form calls four courses “Challenge Studio” courses, so it supports describing them as program-labelled blocks. It does not explicitly say that the entire entering group remains together in every one of those blocks. Based on the published information, those four labelled courses are the likeliest recurring academic spaces for an entering student to encounter other Challenge Studio students; this is not proof of a single fixed cohort, class size, or seating/room arrangement. S04
The four other Grade 8 courses are part of the same published eight-course pattern. Based on the published information, Math, French, PE, and ADST may make a student’s day less program-contained than the four Challenge Studio blocks, because the program does not claim ownership of those subjects. S04 S12
The available course descriptions support a workload that includes reading/writing, historical and scientific inquiry, project work, collaborative/personalized learning, creative design, and critical-thinking tasks. Based on the published information, within a normal week, assignments may move between individual work, discussion, research, group work, making/presenting, and feedback rather than consisting only of daily lectures. No source publishes the amount of homework, weekly assessment frequency, project deadlines, or a standard workload for any particular Grade 8 cohort. S08 S12
Based on the published information — not a sample timetable or a promise. The table uses the published eight-course pattern plus the historical host four-block/FIT rhythm to show what a realistic week could feel like. It deliberately does not assign English, Social Studies, Science, Fine Arts, Math, French, PE, or ADST to a particular day, block, or teacher: no source does so for 2027–2028.
| Part of the week | Reconstructed experience | Evidence boundary |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | Based on the published information, a student begins a full school day with a mixture of program-labelled and accompanying courses. If a comparable host schedule returned, Monday might include a shorter-class/FIT rhythm rather than four equal long blocks; the actual 2027–2028 pattern is Not currently available. | The 2024–2025 Monday host schedule is published; its use for 2027–2028 is inference. The eight subjects are confirmed, but their order is not. |
| Tuesday | Based on the published information, a long-block-style day could allow sustained work in an inquiry, science, humanities, creative, PE, language, Math, or ADST class, with one shared lunch. A student might work on a project in one course and continue it outside class, but no weekly project cadence is published. | The historical Tuesday timing is published; subject-to-block assignment and homework/project cadence are not. |
| Wednesday | Based on the published information, a second FIT-style day could provide a school-day slot for support, catch-up, independent work, teacher contact, or a school activity if the future timetable retained FIT. It should not be treated as a guaranteed club, tutorial, or Challenge Studio advisory. | 2024–2025 publishes FIT times and locations left blank; purpose, participation, and 2027–2028 continuity are Not currently available. |
| Thursday | Based on the published information, another long-block day could include both program coursework and accompanying courses. For a Grade 8 student, the only firm statement is that all eight named courses form the program; no source identifies an “arts day,” “science day,” or fixed cohort day. | Course names are target-year facts; daily arrangement is Not currently available. |
| Friday | Based on the published information, the school week may finish with the same broad mix of classes and a chance to prepare for upcoming project work or activities. It is not known whether weekly work is due Friday, whether FIT occurs, or whether any Challenge Studio event is regularly held then. | The 2024–2025 Friday timing is historical evidence only. |
| Published item | What is actually published | Limit for a typical week |
|---|---|---|
| Off-timetable linear courses | A formerly accessible official Eric Hamber 2024–2025 family bulletin stated that linear full-year courses such as Leadership occurred off timetable before or after school, with start/end times set by individual teachers. The former URL now returns 404 and no local archive was found. R02 | This is an explicitly qualified historical provenance record, not current evidence. It does not say that Leadership is available to a Challenge Studio student, that a student must take it, or that the arrangement continues in 2027–2028. |
| Clubs Day Fair | The current host-school resource describes a historical Clubs Day Fair held at lunch at the beginning of each semester; students may join clubs throughout the year. VSB, New Hamber Student Resources (OFFICIAL; published 2026-03-06; checked 2026-09-21) | This is an orientation/access example, not a weekly club meeting schedule or a Challenge Studio-specific event. |
| Challenge Studio community activities | The official program page says the Student Leadership Club and CHST Parent Group host social events and enrichment activities throughout the year; examples include game nights, a winter social, speaker sessions, lunch-time sports, fundraisers, and volunteer opportunities. Challenge Studio, Community Events (OFFICIAL; publication date Not currently available; checked 2026-09-21) | The page does not date, require, or assign a time of day to each activity. “Lunch-time sports” is the only named timing cue; it is not a promise of weekly lunch-time sport. |
| Field trips / overnight trips | The program lists past field-trip and overnight-trip examples. Challenge Studio, Field Trips (OFFICIAL; publication date Not currently available; checked 2026-09-21) Overnight Trips (OFFICIAL; publication date Not currently available; checked 2026-09-21) | They are examples, not a published 2027–2028 calendar, grade assignment, cost, attendance expectation, or evidence that a trip occurs in a typical week. |
| Host arts rehearsals/performances | The 2026–2027 host booklet describes performances within several music and dance courses, including school/community concerts, a school dance show, district-festival performance for Dance Company, and possible tours for Wind Ensemble. S08 | No rehearsal time, concert/show date, or Challenge Studio student access is published. These must not be turned into an assumed after-school or evening routine. |
Based on the published information, a student who voluntarily joins an accessible host-school club, team, linear Leadership course, ensemble, or Challenge Studio activity could sometimes have a lunch-time, before-school, after-school, evening, or off-campus commitment. That is an optional overlay on the academic week, not a built-in feature of Challenge Studio. student-life.md arts.md
For an entering 2027–2028 Grade 8 student, the realistic fixed picture is an eight-course program containing four named Challenge Studio blocks plus Math, French, PE, and ADST. The strongest available timing evidence is the historical 2024–2025 Eric Hamber four-block/FIT schedule, which is useful for imagining the length and variation of a host-school week but cannot be carried forward as a target-year schedule. Based on the published information, a typical week is likely to combine accelerated/inquiry-oriented program learning with accompanying courses, and optional activities may sometimes extend into lunch or outside timetable. The individual MyEd timetable and the 2027–2028 host bell schedule are needed before treating any day-by-day plan as fact.
All factual material used here is : the target-cycle Challenge Studio application form and program pages, the archived 2026–2027 host course booklet, and official Eric Hamber/VSB pages and PDFs. The historical bell schedule is registered as S16; the removed, unarchived family bulletin is registered and qualified as R02. No secondary or anecdotal source was used.
Reviewed 2026-09-21
Every accepted September 2027 Grade 8 student is published as taking eight courses. One of the four Challenge Studio blocks is Critical Thinking/Fine Arts 8 Challenge Studio; it sits alongside English, Social Studies, Science, Mathematics (or higher), French (or higher), PE, and ADST. This confirms a fine-arts-integrated program course, not a separate visual-arts, music, drama, or media-arts elective. S04
The detailed 2026–2027/undated description says the course combines critical-thinking work with art forms that may include art, drama, photography, film, and stop animation. It describes a process from concept/design through realizing a vision, alongside such critical-thinking topics as philosophy, logic, puzzles, and information validity. The source’s “may include” language is material: no medium, amount of drawing, performance requirement, exhibition, film project, or stop-animation project is guaranteed in a particular cohort or year. S08 S12
| Area | Challenge Studio-specific published provision | 2027–2028 status |
|---|---|---|
| Visual arts / drawing | Critical Thinking/Fine Arts may integrate “art”; the course description does not name a drawing unit, dedicated studio-art course, portfolio, or hours. | The Grade 8 block is confirmed; drawing-specific delivery is Not currently available. |
| Photography, film, stop animation | These are examples of art forms that the near-current description says may be integrated. | Specific medium, equipment, project, and 2027–2028 delivery: Not currently available. |
| Drama / performance | Drama is a possible integrated art form. The course description does not say that students perform publicly or take a host-school drama course. | Performance requirement/opportunity: Not currently available. |
| Music | No Challenge Studio-specific music course, ensemble, or instrumental/vocal pathway is named. | Not currently available. |
| Senior arts specialization | The published five-year Challenge Studio chart names Inquiry & Innovation 9 after Grade 8, but no dedicated Grade 9–12 arts course. | A Challenge Studio-specific senior arts pathway or elective menu is Not currently available. S08 |
The only confirmed program-owned fine-arts provision is the Grade 8 integrated block above. It supports a reasonable description of creative, design-to-realization work with possible visual-art media, but not a claim that Challenge Studio delivers a standalone drawing sequence. Based on the published information, because the course asks students to conceive a design and bring it to life through possible art forms, it can support early exploratory creative practice; it is not evidence of a formal visual-arts specialization or portfolio curriculum. S08
For 2026–2027, Eric Hamber’s host-school booklet lists Visual Arts 8, Visual Arts 9: Foundations, Art Studio Foundations 10–12, Photography 9–12, Ceramics & Sculpture 10–12, and Drawing & Painting 10–12. The visual-arts descriptions include sketchbook and portfolio development, drawing, painting, printmaking, collage/mixed media, sculpture, photography, digital editing, film/darkroom techniques, and senior drawing/painting strategies. These are meaningful host-school options—especially the named Drawing & Painting sequence—but the Challenge Studio materials do not assign any of them to its students or publish which would fit in their accelerated timetable. S08
The host booklet says most Fine Arts opportunities are open to all, while some senior classes may require a prerequisite or teacher permission. It also lists supplemental material fees for host visual-art, photography, and ceramics/sculpture courses. That is not a Challenge Studio-specific entitlement, fee, or 2027–2028 quote. S08
Challenge Studio’s integrated Grade 8 course may use photography, film, or stop animation, but no dedicated media-arts course, production schedule, equipment allocation, screening, or portfolio expectation is published for the program. S08 S12
The 2026–2027 host-school booklet lists Media Arts / Film Production 10–12 and Film Studies 11–12. The production courses describe group short-film work using digital video cameras and editing software, including storyboarding, scripting, camera work, audio, lighting, editing, and media literacy. That establishes a host-school media pathway, not Challenge Studio availability. S08
The program-specific evidence goes no further than drama as one possible Critical Thinking/Fine Arts medium. No Challenge Studio play, theatre company, drama production, drama-room allocation, performance date, casting practice, or audience event is published in the reviewed materials. S08
The host booklet lists Drama 8–10, Theatre Company 10–12 acting, and Directing & Script Development 11–12. It identifies no prior experience for Drama 9–10, while Theatre Company 10 and Directing/Script Development 11–12 carry strong instructor-consent recommendations; advanced acting assumes prior comfort and foundational skills. It also lists Dance 8 and senior dance technique/performance, choreography, and Dance Company courses, with school dance-show and (for Dance Company) district-festival performance references. These are host-school offerings only. A Challenge Studio student should not treat them as guaranteed electives or published program performances. S08
No Challenge Studio-specific band, choir, strings, guitar, music-production course, concert, tour, audition, or instrument provision is published.
For the 2026–2027 host-school catalogue, Eric Hamber lists band (concert and jazz), choir, strings, guitar, and digital music production. The booklet says performances are part of several ensemble courses; it describes school/community concerts for choir, and national/international touring for the Wind Ensemble. It also lists an auditioned Chamber Choir (auditions in early February) and Director-permission conditions for the Wind Ensemble and some band placements. These are useful host-school planning facts but do not establish Challenge Studio access, an audition requirement for the mini-school, or a 2027–2028 event calendar. S08
Challenge Studio does not publish a dedicated art studio, gallery, theatre, music room, equipment inventory, or room allocation.
VSB’s 2024 reporting on Eric Hamber’s replacement campus identifies an auditorium, drama room, music space with sound-proof practice pods, specialty classrooms, and outdoor spaces. These are OFFICIAL host-campus facilities, not resources reserved for Challenge Studio. Based on the published information, a Challenge Studio student may encounter some host-campus arts resources if enrolled in compatible host-school courses, but the reviewed sources do not publish program access or booking priority. VSB, A first look at the new Henry Hudson Elementary and Eric Hamber Secondary (2024-09-20) VSB, Media release: More Vancouver students in new, seismically safer school (2024-09-16)
No Challenge Studio-specific exhibition, concert, theatre production, screening, arts festival, or public performance is identified in the official sources reviewed. Host-school course descriptions point to concerts, dance shows, and other performances, but do not establish a Challenge Studio showcase.
| Period | Official evidence | Finding and limitation |
|---|---|---|
| 2024–2025 entry | The archived Challenge Studio Grade 8 form names Critical Thinking/Fine Arts 8 among the same four program blocks. S11 | Documents continuity of the integrated Grade 8 block to the current form; it does not identify media, performance, facilities, or an arts elective menu. |
| 2025–2026 | The identified Challenge Studio application form is removed/inaccessible. R01 | Program-specific arts change/continuity for this cycle is Not currently available; no reconstruction from search text. |
| 2026–2027 / undated current | The host booklet and program pages describe Critical Thinking/Fine Arts as possibly using art, drama, photography, film, and stop animation. S08 S12 | First detailed archived account in this dossier of the block’s potential media. It does not state when those media were added, removed, or taught in every year. |
| 2027–2028 entry | The current form repeats Critical Thinking/Fine Arts 8 but gives no course description or arts calendar. S04 | The block continues in the target-year entry pattern; changes to its content, host-course access, facilities, performances, or senior arts pathways are Not currently available. |
Challenge Studio provides a confirmed Grade 8 integrated Critical Thinking/Fine Arts course, with near-current evidence of possible visual, dramatic, photographic, film, and stop-animation work. It does not publish a standalone drawing, music, theatre, media-arts, or senior arts specialization.
Before relying on a specialist pathway, the following should be confirmed in the relevant future host-school course-planning materials: (1) whether an arts elective can fit the accelerated Challenge Studio sequence; (2) prerequisites, permission/audition rules, fees, and capacity; (3) the actual Grade 8 Critical Thinking/Fine Arts media and assessment plan; and (4) any 2027–2028 performances, exhibitions, screenings, or facility access.
All substantive evidence used here is : the Challenge Studio/VSB registry and archived documents in sources.md, plus the two directly linked VSB host-campus reports. No secondary or anecdotal source was used.

This is a course-planning and transition reference, not an admissions forecast. Challenge Studio’s current/near-current senior sequence is published in Eric Hamber Secondary’s 2026–2027 booklet and undated program pages. It is not a promise for the September 2027 entry cohort. The only reviewed target-year course statement is the Grade 8 form: it confirms the eight-course Grade 8 model, but not a Grade 9–12 timetable, host-course allocation, or 2027–2028 senior guide. S04 S08 S12
No reviewed source says that Challenge Studio membership gives an admissions advantage. AP, acceleration, projects, clubs, portfolios, service, competitions and dual credit can be worthwhile learning opportunities, but are not automatic admission preference or university credit.
| Area | Published Challenge Studio preparation | Planning significance and limit |
|---|---|---|
| English and writing | Junior English 8–10 is completed over Grades 8–9; English 11 (Literary Studies) Challenge Studio is followed by English 12: World Literature Challenge Studio. AP English Literature & Composition 12 is the published recommended continuation. World Literature emphasizes international literature and university preparation; AP Literature is described as college/university-level work with a May examination. | This supports senior reading, analysis, argument and writing preparation. The Grade 12 courses are in the near-current sequence, but their 2027–2028 offering, individual enrolment, timetable fit and exam participation are Not currently available. S08 S12 |
| Humanities | Social Studies 8–10 Challenge Studio is published through Grade 10; Law 12 Challenge Studio appears in Grade 11 and Philosophy 12 is recommended in Grade 12. Descriptions include history/current issues, inquiry, written/oral/multimedia communication, Canadian law, discussion, debate, research, presentations and writing. | Supports humanities/law/social-science-oriented preparation, but Law and Philosophy are not university prerequisites, special credentials, or guaranteed target-year offerings. S08 S12 |
| Science and engineering foundations | Science 8–10 is accelerated into Grades 8–9; the program describes fast-paced inquiry/project work and names the Vancouver District Science Fair as an enriched opportunity. | Finishing junior Science early may make senior planning possible, but the program does not publish a Grade 11/12 science sequence. Science-fair participation and a target-year senior plan are Not currently available. S08 S12 |
| Inquiry and transition | Inquiry & Innovation 9 has students propose, plan, execute and present projects. Career-Life Connections 12 is described as mentor-supported reflection on plans/goals culminating in a capstone. | Useful research, presentation and reflection preparation; not a published university workshop, reference service, research placement or admissions credential. Target-cohort CLC delivery is Not currently available. S08 S12 |
The following are listed by Eric Hamber Secondary for 2026–2027. S08
| Pathway | Relevant host-school options | Important boundary |

| Math, physical science and engineering | Foundations and Pre-Calculus 10; Pre-Calculus 11/12; AP Precalculus 12; Calculus 12; AP Calculus AB; AP Statistics; Chemistry 11/12; Physics 11/12; AP Physics 1/C; AP Chemistry. | The guide publishes course-specific prerequisites/co-requisites (for example, Physics 12 requires Physics 11 and has Pre-Calculus 12 as co-requisite; AP Physics C has Calculus 12 as co-requisite). Challenge Studio’s Grade 8 form says Math 8 “or higher,” not that a student has any particular senior math route. S04 S08 |
| Life/health science | Life Sciences 11, Anatomy & Physiology 12, Chemistry 11/12, AP Biology 12, AP Chemistry 12 and other senior sciences. | Anatomy & Physiology and AP Biology carry stated recommended preparation. Check a target program’s approved-course list; not every Science 12 is interchangeable. S08 |
| Computer science/technology | Computer Studies 10 / Computer Science 11, Computer Programming 11, Computer Science 12, Computer Programming 12 independent study, ADST/drafting/design. | The guide describes a Python-to-senior-C++ progression. Computer Programming 12 requires three previous years of Hamber programming. These courses are useful exposure, not replacements for institutional senior math/science requirements. S08 |
| Business | Entrepreneurship and Marketing 10, Accounting 11, Financial Accounting 12, Economics 12, E-Commerce 12 and electronic design. | Supports subject exposure and communication/case skills; not a business-degree requirement unless an institution explicitly says so. S08 |
| Languages | French 11/12, Japanese 11/12, Introductory Spanish 11, Spanish 11/12. Program materials say French Immersion entrants are generally placed in French 10 or 11 depending on scheduling and availability. | Specific placement and senior seats are Not currently available. S08 S12 |
| Fine arts/design | Visual Arts, Photography, Ceramics & Sculpture, Drawing & Painting 10–12, drama/performance, electronic design, drafting/design. The guide describes sketchbooks/portfolios, photography portfolios, and application-portfolio preparation in drafting/design. | Host-school opportunities only, not a Challenge Studio arts stream. arts.md S08 |
Challenge Studio’s Critical Thinking/Fine Arts 8 may integrate art, drama, photography, film and stop animation; Social Studies 10 describes portfolio assessment and inquiry projects. This is early creative/inquiry context, not a published senior fine-arts portfolio curriculum or review service. S08 S12
Based on the published information, a student who obtains places in host visual-art, photography, design, drafting or performing-arts courses could use original work and process documentation to prepare portfolio/audition material. This is not a formal Challenge Studio pathway or evidence that an institution will accept the work. Follow each target program’s live portfolio brief. arts.md
The host guide lists VSB’s Headstart-in-Art dual-credit program with Emily Carr University of Art + Design. In its 2026–2027 version, students earning 80% or higher may receive a portfolio waiver if applying to an Emily Carr undergraduate degree. This is an explicitly limited external condition—not a general waiver, a Challenge Studio entitlement, or a claim about other institutions. S08
The English pathway explicitly develops literary analysis and persuasive written/verbal communication. Social Studies includes written, oral and multimedia inquiry; Philosophy includes research/presentations/writing; Inquiry & Innovation and CLC provide project/capstone presentation. This supports a claim of writing/research practice, not guaranteed tutoring, application-essay review or supplemental-application success. S08 S12
Challenge Studio names the Vancouver District Science Fair as one enriched opportunity, without establishing a club, entry process, research supervision or future participation. Participation should be chosen for genuine interest and contribution, not presumed admissions benefit. student-life.md
The host 2026–2027 guide says counsellors assist students/families with course selection, advises discussing post-secondary plans with the grade counsellor, and warns that graduation requirements differ from post-secondary admission. It also says timetables are constrained by facilities, staffing, graduation requirements and individual choice. This is host-school planning support, not a Challenge Studio-specific counselling assignment or guarantee. S08
The guide also publishes Work Experience 11/12 and VSB Career Programs, including dual-credit programs delivered with post-secondary institutions. The guide says dual credit can yield secondary and post-secondary credits with VSB tuition support, while applicants initially register at their home school with a full load and may receive timetable changes only if accepted. These are district/host-school opportunities—not automatic Challenge Studio offerings or substitutes for degree prerequisites. S08
These are time-stamped references checked 2026-09-21, not requirements for a future Grade 8 cohort. Institutions can change eligible courses, minimums, supplemental components, deadlines and competitive thresholds. Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission.

Its live selector is authoritative for a chosen degree. | Do not collapse UBC’s degree-specific BC requirements to one static list. Use the selector once a degree is identified. U01 |
| SFU — Engineering Science | SFU currently lists at least five approved academic Grade 12 courses including English Studies 12 or English First Peoples 12, Chemistry 12, Physics 12, and at least one of Pre-Calculus 12/Calculus 12; Calculus 12 is recommended. | The host guide publishes these course areas and feeder prerequisites, but Challenge Studio does not itself publish the senior STEM plan. U02 |
| SFU Beedie — BBA | The BC high-school page lists English Studies 12, Pre-Calculus 12 and three additional approved Grade 12 courses; it describes competitive selection and a supplemental application. Calculus 12 cannot replace Pre-Calculus 12. Supplemental materials include written response, activities/achievements and two references, one teacher/counsellor. | Challenge Studio writing/inquiry/leadership can be relevant preparation, but does not replace requirements or guarantee a reference/admission advantage. U03 U04 |
| UVic — Computer Science | UVic currently requires approved English 11, Pre-Calculus 11, approved Science 11 and Social Studies 11/12, then English Studies 12 or English First Peoples 12 (73% minimum), Pre-Calculus 12 (77% minimum), approved Science 12 and approved Academic 12. It says minimums do not guarantee admission. | Host math/science/computing options can support planning. Computing electives do not substitute for the stated math/science requirements. U05 |
| Emily Carr — undergraduate applicants | Emily Carr’s application page describes portfolio requirements for high-school applicants, subject to stated exceptions and current instructions. | Use its live portfolio brief. Challenge Studio does not publish a portfolio pathway; the Headstart-in-Art waiver is limited as stated above. U06 |
| BCIT — program-specific admission | BCIT identifies entrance requirements as program-specific and its Computer Systems Technology page says the Registrar is final authority on whether requirements are met. | Use each exact live program page; no universal BCIT prerequisite is claimed. U07 |
